Job Title: Lecturer in Engineering

Introduction:
Our client has an immediate requirement for a Lecturer in Engineering to provide training to military students in Bordon, Hampshire. Our client delivers training to HND level.
Please note our client is looking for somebody with a degree in an engineering discipline with some industrial (hands on) experience in an engineering field. Lecturing experience is desirable but not mandatory, as our client is happy for the successful applicant to complete a teaching qualification within two years of starting this role.
The hours of work are 8am - 5.10pm Monday to Friday however one of the days would be a half day, generally this would be a Wednesday.
The successful candidate will complete in-house training to enable him/her to deliver two or more of the following subjects at HND level: Engineering Science, Mathematics, Engineering materials, CAD and IT, Engineering Design, Advanced Engine Technology, Electrical Principles, Fluid Mechanics, Instrumentation and Control, Accident Reconstruction and Fault Diagnosis.
Educated to degree level (or equivalent) in an engineering discipline, you'll have a teaching qualification, or be prepared to work towards one, a flexible approach to work and the determination to ensure that students are motivated to achieve the highest possible standards.
Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include the following:
- To lecture courses in their specified subjects and appropriate level as scheduled.
- Invigilates examinations and assessments as scheduled.
- Mark and set homework, classwork, labwork, assignments and projects as required.
- Supervise labwork and monitors Department project work undertaken by students.
- Devise laboratory work schemes as required by the subject Senior Lecturers.
- Write lecture guides, student précis, handouts and labwork sheets as required.
- Prepare material for the production of PowerPoint presentations, view-foils and demonstrations.
- Initiates and investigates new teaching methods to promote a better understanding of the subject by their students.
- Advise senior staff, when required, on the progress of their students.
- Carry out Continuing Professional Development (CPD) to update their personal knowledge of their subjects.
- Control student behavior and discipline in their classroom.
Applicant Requirements:
Essential:
- Degree and/or Corporate membership of a Chartered Engineering Institution.
- Appropriate Lecturing experience.
- Appropriate Engineering experience.
- To be able to control delivery pace of lecture to ensure the required content is delivered within the specified time.
- To be able to recognize student learning difficulties and adjust delivery method and/or pace to suit, consistent with the given time constraints.
- Team player.
Desirable:
- PostGraduate Certificate of Education (PGCE) or other recognized and acceptable teaching qualification.
